Looking Forward to the Future

During the past decade we've witnessed the rise of San Francisco's most innovative and dynamic neighborhood, South Beach and Mission Bay. Evolving from a chaos of parking lots, body shops and night clubs, SBMB is now the address to fast-forward restaurants, shops and, best of all, people.

But what's most thrilling about SBMB isn't its past, or even its present, but its future.

Bryant Street Pier

A world-class cruise terminal, scheduled for completion in 2007, will soon be pied-à-terre for some of the world's most luxurious ocean liners, relaunching San Francisco's premier position in the cruise industry. The terminal will inspire luxury hotels, restaurants and shopping for passengers arriving in and departing from the port of San Francisco.

Safeway will be soon capitalize on the tastes of local residents by pioneering a new generation of upmarket stores, catering to the gourmet tastes of SBMB residents. A second Whole Foods — grand opening anticipated in the coming months — will keep the reputation of culinary excellence alive in the ‘hood.

UCSF's Mission Bay Campus marks the southwest border of the SBMB at the heart of San Francisco's sunbelt. The campus, with its state-of-the-art public fitness complex, will soon host the University's new Stem Cell Research Center, a magnet for brilliant scientific minds from around the globe. These world-class scientists, professors and research personnel will continue to fuel the cosmopolitan energy of South Beach/Mission Bay.

While SBMB will continue it fast-track to fabulous, it will also build a spirit of community and diversity. Senior Housing, located at the corner of Berry and 4th Street, will create ensure socio-economic diversity and viability, ensuring that SBMB reflects the spirit of the larger city by offering home sweet home to people from all walks of life.

A new Mission Bay library represents the city's commitment to bringing a full complement of neighborhood services to SBMB. The Third Street light rail extension will transport residents and workers in, out and through the neighborhood connecting the Embarcadero to the Central Waterfront and ultimately to BART.

With Macromedia and Sega leading the way, and with the CalTrans terminal at Fourth and Brannan (northwest corner of the neighborhood) experts predict that SBMB will be an increasingly attractive address for both employers and employees.

Soon SBMB will be defined by a continuous crescent of retail, dining, entertainment, tourism and living opportunity bracketed between the new cruise ship terminal in the south and Fisherman's Wharf in the north. The neighborhood is a shining example to the world of urban planning and renewal, evolving the urban experience to one of balance, diversity, opportunity and quality.

For SBMB, what's behind us is fascinating. What's with us today is fantastic. And what's in store for our future is thrilling.
